Con Dao Museum

Located on Nguyen Hue Street, visitors can walk or travel by car to visit Con Dao Museum, the museum is built on an area of 2,750 m2.The exhibition space is 1,700 square meters, exhibiting nearly 2,000 documents, artifacts, images, preserving the heroic vigor in the struggle against colonialism and empire of Vietnamese patriots, with 4 subjects: Con Dao – human nature; Hell on earth; Fronts and schools; Con Dao today.

The centerpiece of the statue is a 6m high stainless steel statue of the Communist (with the desire of freedom, the arms of the high rise, breaking the chains attached to the bird’s silhouette). At the backis the stone block in Con Dao, imitating the layers of stone block interwoven together, surface engraved numbers, that is the number of prison. These imprinted stone tablets symbolize the generation of prisoners of exile in the Con Dao prison for 113 years (1862-1975).

Con Dao Museum is a place to store, display, preserve and introduce the historical and cultural artifacts of land and people of Con Dao through historical periods. Come to Con Dao Museum, you will understand more deeply about nature – Con Dao people from prehistoric time, history to the present development stage and learn the history of Con Dao prison in 113 years of “Hell on earth”.
